"Get a Purple Heart pinned to my chest,

Lets go, the celebration is this morn,

We don't want to leave the crowd forlorn,

Upon the field without some alcohol.


"Not much to look at now, but then,

I was among the very best of men.

I've been jacked-up on opium since,

That last helicopter flight, they tell me.


I'm trying to block out the memory,

Of all that happened on that day, I

Helped four-- Excuse me, I cannot talk--"

He's smiling but his eyes are glassy now.
